Leafield Marine design and manufacture many products for use at sea, or in life saving applications. Therefore, safety is always a top priority for us. It is vital that our products have the certifications in order to prove that they are fit for use.
SOLAS
SOLAS is also known as Safety Of Life At Sea. It is one of the most well-known conventions in use today. SOLAS sets the safety standards for the building and operation of ships. The guidelines were first brought into effect in after the Titanic sank in 1914. However, the current version has been in use since 1974 (with amendments to keep it up-to-date). Rescue boats and life raft valves and systems often need SOLAS approval.
SOLAS have approved many of our products. For example, our systems for life rafts.
ISO
ISO is a global network of bodies. They outline the standards for making and supplying products all over the world. Leafield Marine is an ISO 9001:2015 registered company. This is the most well-known quality standard. It is strongly focused on the customer. Therefore, our ISO 9001 certification proves our consistently high quality. Many of our valves meet other ISO standards too. For instance, our leisure life raft systems are approved to ISO 9650 and commercial systems to ISO 15738.
PED
The Pressure Equipment Directive is a conformity test of materials for pressure tools. This impacts all pressure devices that are put on the market in the European Economic Area (EEA). This approval is key for us as we are UK-based and often export our goods. Many Leafield products pass the PED. You can contact us to find out which these are.
PRESSURE EQUIPMENT (SAFETY) REGULATIONS
The PE(S)R impacts equipment that is supplied in or into Great Britain. The policies apply to tools with a top pressure greater than 0.5 bar. As a UK based company, many of our products must meet these regulations in order to be on the market in Great Britain.
NATO
NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organisation) is a political and military alliance between governments. Several of Leafield Marine’s products have been given NATO stock numbers. This is a result of their use in defence applications. The NATO number thus shows the strength and quality of our products in high-risk situations.
Leafield Marine has also been achieved Approved Exporter Status as governed by UK HM Revenue and Customs. This allows for simple trading with countries entered into Free Trade Agreements.
At Leafield Marine, we take great care to ensure our valves and systems meet laws and gain the required approvals for their use. These vary between product, so please contact us to find out which each product has.
